What a sale at the Derbyshire Gritstone annual breed show and sale at Clitheroe Auction Mart on Saturday October 9th 2021!
In the tup show ring we took top honours with male champion for a record 15th time and top placings in all 3 classes (Aged, Shearling and Lamb).
The days champion was a homebred shearling got by a widely fancied homebred tup and sold to Mr Whitehead for 1,900gns. We took reserve champion with a heavy boned 4-shear that we had purchased back in 2017 and used 3 times. He sold away at 1,700gns to Alan Heathcote!
My 1st prize tup lamb (Harrop 007) went on to equal the record tup lamb price of 2,800gns selling to Joe Mitchell.

Those observant amongst you will have noted a purchase we made too - when it came to the sale ring it was Philip Read’s powerful shearling tup that set the mart alight - the last in a long line of excellent tups bred by Philip over the years and one my dad had seen as a lamb (and liked) before he passed away. After a rapid-fire bidding battle it was finally knocked down to us for 6,200gns smashing the previous record by a further 1,700gns!!! He has been named Philippe in honour of Philip but posher... because he was dear :) See the blog photo for a look at the big lad himself!
